Description: It is the property of – Staunton Esq. 2/3 of which is bog the remainder under tillage. A river forms a portion of the townland. W. boundary.

Situation: It is situated 4 1/4 miles S. W. of Annaghdown Church. Bounded N by Woodpark. South by Lough Corrib. East by Lisanoran and West by Muckrush and Lough Corrib.

Sale in Encumbered Estates Court, 1879

The townland of Barranny was offered for sale by auction at the Land Judges Court on 25 November 1879 alongside the lands of Woodpark, Ballylee, Shankill, and Muckrush, all then in the possession of Mary Hall (widow) and several others. Woodpark, Ballylee, and Barranny were purchased by Peter Newell of Woodpark.

On form B2 for outoffices and farm-steadings only one page (of two) is available. There are seventeen holdings listed on this page. Fourteen had a cow house, nine a barn, eight a stable, eight a piggery, four a fowl house and two had a calf house.

    Thank you for the great job you did. Can you tell me how you got the info on the 1901 census, about Mary Scully ( nee King )? I have not seen that before. My family are Kings, from Barranny ( Bridget King, Thomas King, Michael and Patt King ). Thomas married Mary Flaherty, and lived on Market Street ( 1840s ).
    Our cousins include Francis Coneely, which branched into the Allens, Potters, Carrs and Melias.
    I joined the annaghdown dna site, and also subscribed.
    I would be so grateful for anything you may have come across. I have reached a wall. Please stay well.

    My uncle Micheal Crowe son OF Denis Crowe and Honora Cahill brother of Edmond Thomas and sister of Kate is not recorded .emigrated to Indianapolis USA .
