We will have a second workshop on Tuesday 12 May at 8pm in the Heritage Room, Old Girls' School, Corrandulla, aimed at furthering our project on researching townlands in the parish. Our Summer Outing takes place on Saturday 15 June, to Portumna Workhouse and Portumna Castle. Itinerary: 10am bus pick up from Corrandulla 11.30 - arrival at Portumna Workhouse for a guided tour, tea and biscuits after. 1.00 - arrival at Portumna Castle for guided tour. Annaghdown Heritage Society will present a workshop entitled “Reading Old Maps” in the Heritage Room, Old Girls’ School, Corrandulla on Wednesday, October 23 at 8 pm. (Eircode is H91 WEP0). The workshop co-presented by Paul Gosling, GMIT and Eoin O’Neill, Galway City Museum, will focus on using maps for local history research and use Annaghdown as a case study. Dr Christy Cunniffe: Religious and Secular Iconography on 18th- and 19th-century Funerary Monuments

Dr Christy Cunniffe will deliver a lecture entitled “A discussion of the Religious and Secular Iconography found on 18th- and 19th-century Funerary Monuments" in the AHS Heritage Room at the Old Girls' School, Corrandulla on Tuesday 26 November at 8pm. Christy is employed as Community Archaeologist by the Heritage Office of Galway County Council through the Galway Community Archaeology Advisory Project, with the brief of creating greater public awareness about archaeology.
