Annaghdown Heritage Society hosted an online talk entitled “Logainmneacha Eanach Dhúin: The Placenames of Annaghdown”, by Nollaig Ó Muraíle, on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at 8 pm.  In preparation for his talk, Dr Ó Muraíle produced a comprehensive summary of Annaghdown placenames which can viewed or downloaded here.

Description of Talk

The talk will be in English, but will include plenty of references to material in Irish since almost all the 69 townland-names in the civil parish of Annaghdown are linguistically Irish.

Dr Ó Muraíle is a retired lecturer in Irish at NUI Galway.  He was elected a member of the Royal Irish Academy in 2009, and appointed Adjunct Professor of Modern Irish in Maynooth University in 2019.   He was named ‘Mayo Person of the Year, 2005’.  His academic expertise includes various aspects of Irish history and literature – especially the manuscript tradition.  In addition to some twenty books, he has published over a hundred substantial articles and book-chapters, in Irish and English, both in Ireland and abroad.
