Irene McGoldrick: The Annaghdown DNA Project

May 16, 2018 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Genealogy & the Annaghdown DNA Project

Our May lecture will take place on Wednesday 16 May at 8pm in the Old Girls’ School, Corrandulla, when Irene McGoldrick will speak on ‘Genealogy and the Annaghdown DNA Project’.

In recent years, DNA testing for genealogy has become more and more affordable and accessible. More people than ever are now using genetic genealogy to assist them in tracing their family history and connecting with relatives, where famine, poverty and distance have separated families for generations. This talk will present an overview of what DNA testing for genealogical purposes is all about, looking at the different types of DNA testing, the main providers and the advantages and disadvantages of each, and how to make the most out of DNA results using third party websites. The talk will also describe the Annaghdown DNA Project, a geographical project which was set up in 2017 for the Annaghdown area, to link people who are from Annaghdown and who have Annaghdown heritage.

No prior knowledge of DNA or genealogy is required, and all are welcome.

This will be the final lecture in our Spring 2018 Programme.
