Saint Meldan, Saint Fursa, Saint Cuana: the Saints of Loch Corrib

Annaghdown Heritage Society is pleased to announce our next event, a talk by Dr Jessica Cooke on “Saint Meldan, Saint Fursa, Saint Cuana: the saints of Loch Corrib”.

The lecture will take place on Wednesday 1 June at 8pm at the Heritage Room in the Old Girls’ School, Corrandulla (H91 WEP0) and will also be available on Zoom.

In this talk, Jessica will discuss the sixth-century and seventh-century saints who shaped the stretch of lakeshore around Annaghdown and beyond, the evidence for whose lives and works can still be found in medieval manuscripts of saints’ lives, topographical place names and folklore.

Jessica is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin and of the University of Cambridge. In addition to her scholarly work in the area of medieval history and archaeology, she has also been heavily involved in the restoration of the 14th century Annaghdown Castle.
